I see you on the cross,
hanging in a place of death and dying.
on a bloodstained barren rock;
Where cynics hurl their mocking words,
and where followers desert you.
Hands and feet pierced and bloody,
a body scourged and bruised,
bound to a cross.
A “Man of Sorrows” you truly are.
My Lord and God, lift up your head,
and see past the crowd beneath you,
open your eyes and envision me,
worshipping you here and now.
Eternal God, dying as a man,
with the power to see through time and space;
See me here as I am now,
as if I’m with you there and then.
Mystery of Mysteries.
You saw me long before,
you ever became a man.
You and your Father proclaimed my name,
before the world began.
And you saw me made worthy,
by the blood you shed this day.
The path you took, the pain you bore
was all just for me.
And even if I was the only one,
to ever call you God;
I know by the miracle of your love,
you would be broken on the cross.
to make me whole in you.
My Jesus, My God, lift up your eyes,
and see me here today.
Bowed down and praising you.
Let my prayers drown out the jeers,
and my love relieve the pain.
See me on the cross dear Lord,
See me here today.
See how much your living words,
have made me whole and blessed.
See how my life has changed.
by your unselfish gift.
See me on the Cross,
I have failed you many times.
my sins have put you in this place,
crucified by my pride.
How can mercy such as this,
enter my hardened mind.
But yet, as death and agony surround you.
abandoned by the ones who love you,
so that the blood that flows from you,
and falls upon the rugged ground;
might flow to me,
and heal my mind and set me free.
Sacrifice worthy and good,
that makes peace with God for me,
so that my soul cleansed by your blood,
Might be a place containing you;
a place for your Holy Spirit to dwell.
How can any worm filled man.
dare label God and unfair judge;
with the sacrifice of his begotten son,
that frees us from his judgement.
Mercy for Abraham and Isaac on Mt. Moriah,
Mercy for the first born Hebrews in Egypt,
No mercy for God and his Son on Golgotha.
Forsaken Son, of an Awesome, Holy God.
Creator become creature,
so none can say that God is cruel or distant.
Forsaken first born Son,
allowed to suffer in agony and die;
by a silent Father;
so that as unworthy as I am,
I might become a son,
and return to God, as Adam before the fall,
naked and free from sin,
and so in peace, my lips may call God, Father.
See me on the Cross.
Lift up your eyes and see me now,
by the power of who you are,
penetrate the veil of time,
see me transformed by your love.
And see the others who are here,
multitudes kneeling before your throne,
your name is known throughout the world,
for bringing peace with God.
I can’t explain why your would choose me
as lowly as I am.
All I know is that on that cross
a mystery of faith is transpiring,
your blood and suffering making me whole,
and my spirit and yours,
are joining as One for ever more.
Dear Lord Jesus, my God,
see me on the Cross;
see me here today.
Joined with you as One.
Good Friday- 1998.
