The most famous speech in As You Like It is the Seven Ages of Man, which begins ‘All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players’ (Act 2, Scene 7).
God is the set, or the stage. We are the characters playing our roles within the set. And…we and God are one. The interaction between the characters and the set are dynamic, symbiotic and define the One. We reflect each other. We are intimately connected. God and we are One.
It’s such an bewildering thing about human beings. How they long to find God. Why, is there this deep, innate longing. It persists even when we reject all of the failing frame work of religion. Even when we stand alone, having cast off all of our presumptions about God, and have claimed the mountain of separation and denial, even in this act, we long for God. The very act of denying, is an act of accepting, since we can’t deny that which does not exist.
They fashioned a tomb for you, holy and high one,
Cretans, always liars, evil beasts, idle bellies.
But you are not dead: you live and abide forever,
For in you we live and move and have our being.
Minos, Epimenides 6th or 7th century BCE
God sees the other players on the stage through our eyes.
God sees us through the eyes of others.
God has no way of becoming, because God is without form. So how would God become? How could he become? How could enter into existence beyond himself. Beyond thought. Beyond self.
He jumped, descending into material existence, and within himself we are. He denied glory, and became heavy with the creation. Material descending out of non-material. All so that he could see his own being, and display the source of love.
God is the person seeing and the person being seen.
Perfected “Yin and Yang.” God within us, we within God.
Perfect balance.
Multitude of possibilities flowing in perfect symmetry.
But where is God? The world, mankind, the beasts, the rocks, the molecules, the black holes and dazzling galaxies are all God. We are God and within God. Since we are as God by his presence within us and our presence within him, God cares for us, for he is caring for himself and what his being is creating.
The constant flowing Way. “I am the Way and the truth…“
One immersive, ethereal being, permeating all things. Everything is him/her. All is God. God is One.
God is a system, a flowing way, in fact a gigantic fractal, and we are a perfect portion of the One.
God is manifest!
God is manifest in all things
Praise and sanctify his name.
