OK, so lets walk among the strange, shall we. Thirty or so years ago, for a period of months, I was visited almost nightly by several Ophanim. They would come buzzing around my head, just as I fell into sleep. I always marveled at them, and why they had chosen to spend their time, whispering to me. And just in case you think I am nuts, my wife, who is totally agnostic, was awakened by them in our bed, and she asked me to make them stop. I warned you this was strange, but it ties into something I had not heard about before. Within Enoch’s Book of Parables, which was banned by the church, because it condemned the corruption of the rulers and powerful of the world. Of course, the rulers of the catholic church and the Roman emperor Constantine did not want approved scripture to condemn the evil of earthly rulers, because it might look badly on them. Maybe an army of Ophanim will be returning to earth in a time like our own.
So these are hard words, as I have often prayed for all of humanity to be saved…but I do not want to continue to dwell among them and their evil and depraved acts of genocide and hate. Their attempt to murder billions of humans, so why would those humans so threatened by them want to live within their midst. So I rejoice, that God in his mercy is in the end going to restore the earth for the elect.
These verses were written in the first or second century BC, long before Christ tread upon the earth, so keep that in mind as you read. Again, I rejoice and glad in my savior and God, my beloved Father and Mother who intend to redeem the elect and to restore the earth on their behalf. I glorify and worship you.
“The ophanim (Hebrew: אוֹפַנִּים ʼōp̄annīm, ‘wheels’; singular: Ofan אוֹפָן ʼōp̄ān), alternatively spelled auphanim or ofanim, and also called galgalim (Hebrew: גַּלְגַּלִּים galgallīm, ‘spheres, wheels, whirlwinds’; singular: גַּלְגַּל galgal), refer to the wheels seen in Ezekiel’s vision of the chariot (Hebrew merkabah) in Ezekiel 1:15–21. One of the Dead Sea Scrolls (4Q405) construes them as angels; late sections of the Book of Enoch (61:10, 71:7) portray them as a class of celestial beings who (along with the Cherubim and Seraphim) never sleep, but guard the throne of God. In some systems of Christian angelology, they are one of the choirs (classes) of angels, and are also identified as Thrones.” Wikipedia
Ezekiel 1:15–21: Prophet Ezekiel visualizes four wheels on the ground beside four-faced creatures, sparkling like topaz, shaped like a wheel within a wheel, and entirely covered in eyes around their rims.
Ezekiel 10:9–13: Re-describes the sparkling, eye-adorned intersecting wheels moving in straight synchronization with the cherubim.
Daniel 7:9: Mentions the fiery throne of God with wheels of burning fire, aligning with the concept of the wheel-beings

Enoch’s Book of Parables.
Chapter 37
1 The second vision which he saw, the vision of wisdom -which Enoch the son of Jared,
2 The son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, saw. And this is the beginning of the words of wisdom which I lifted up my voice to speak and say to those which dwell on earth: Hear, ye men of old time, and see, ye that come after,
3 The words of the Holy one which I will speak before the Lord of Spirits. It were better to declare, them only, to the men of old time, but even from those that come after we will not withhold the beginning of wisdom.
4 Till the present day such wisdom has never been given by the Lord of Spirits as I have received according to my insight, according to the good pleasure of the Lord of Spirits by whom the lot of eternal life has been given to me.
5 Now three Parables were imparted to me, and I lifted up my voice and recounted them to those that dwell on the earth.
Chapter 38
1 The first Parable. When the congregation of the righteous shall appear, and sinners shall be judged for their sins, and shall be driven from the face of the earth:
2 And when the Righteous One shall appear before the eyes of the righteous, whose elect works hang upon the Lord of Spirits, and light shall appear to the righteous and the elect who dwell on the earth, where then will be the dwelling of the sinners, and where the resting-place of those who have denied the Lord of Spirits? It had been good for them if they had not been born.
3 When the secrets of the righteous shall be revealed and the sinners judged, and the godless driven from the presence of the righteous and elect,
4 From that time those that possess the earth shall no longer be powerful and exalted: And they shall not be able to behold the face of the holy, For the Lord of Spirits has caused His light to appear on the face of the holy, righteous, and elect.
5 Then shall the kings and the mighty perish and be given into the hands of the righteous and holy.
6 And thenceforward none shall seek for themselves mercy from the Lord of Spirits for their life is at an end.
Well no wonder the Church and the Roman Caesars, wanted these texts banned. The texts are declaring the judgement and the casting from the earth or corrupt earthly rulers so the elect can live within an new, perfected, kingdom of God.
Well. I also hate to disappoint all the born-gain believers, but this text, stands among hundreds more that state emphatically that it is the sinners who are going to be swept from the earth, leaving it to be inhabited by the elect. So, I wouldn’t be hoping to strongly, for such a false hope.
Chapter 39
1 And it shall come to pass in those days that elect and holy children will descend from the high heaven,
2 And their seed will become one with the children of men. And in those days Enoch received books of zeal and wrath, and books of disquiet and expulsion. And mercy shall not be accorded to them, saith the Lord of Spirits.
3 And in those days a whirlwind carried me off from the earth, and set me down at the end of the heavens.
4 And there I saw another vision, the dwelling-places of the holy, and the resting-places of the righteous.
5 Here mine eyes saw their dwellings with His righteous angels, and their resting-places with the holy. And they petitioned and interceded and prayed for the children of men, and righteousness flowed before them as water, and mercy like dew upon the earth: Thus it is amongst them for ever and ever.
6 And in that place mine eyes saw the Elect One of righteousness and of faith, and I saw his dwelling-place under the wings of the Lord of Spirits. And righteousness shall prevail in his days, and the righteous and elect shall be without number before Him for ever and ever.
7 And all the righteous and elect before Him shall be strong as fiery lights, and their mouth shall be full of blessing, and their lips extol the name of the Lord of Spirits, and righteousness before Him shall never fail, and uprightness shall never fail before Him.
8 There I wished to dwell, and my spirit longed for that dwelling-place: And there heretofore hath been my portion, For so has it been established concerning me before the Lord of Spirits.
9 In those days I praised and extolled the name of the Lord of Spirits with blessings and praises, because He hath destined me for blessing and glory according to the good pleasure of the Lord of Spirits.
10 For a long time my eyes regarded that place, and I blessed Him and praised Him, saying: Blessed is He, and may He be blessed from the beginning and for evermo re. And before Him there is no ceasing. He knows before the world was created what is for ever and what will be from generation unto generation.
11 Those who sleep not bless Thee: they stand before Thy glory and bless, praise, and extol, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Spirits:
12 He filleth the earth with 12 spirits.” And here my eyes saw all those who sleep not: they stand before Him and bless and say: Blessed be Thou, and blessed be the name of the Lord for ever and ever. And my face was changed; for I could no longer behold.
Chapter 40
1 And after that I saw thousands of thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand, I saw a multitude beyond number and reckoning,
2 Who stood before the Lord of Spirits. And on the four sides of the Lord of Spirits I saw four presences, different from those that sleep not, and I learnt their names: for the angel that went with me made known to me their names, and showed me all the hidden things.
3 And I heard the voices of those four presences as they uttered praises before the Lord of glory.
4 The first voice blesses the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.
5 And the second voice I heard blessing the Elect One,
6 And the elect ones who hang upon the Lord of Spirits. And the third voice I heard pray and intercede for those who dwell on the earth and supplicate in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
7 ] And I heard the fourth voice fending off the Satans and forbidding them to come before the Lord of Spirits to accuse them who dwell on the earth.
8 After that I asked the angel of peace who went with me, who showed me everything that is hidden: Who are these four presences which I have seen and whose words I have heard and written down?
9 And he said to me: This first is Michael, the merciful and long-suffering: and the second, who is set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of men, is Raphael: and the third, who is set over all the powers, is Gabriel: and the fourth, who is set over the repentance unto hope of those who inherit eternal life, is named Phanuel.
10 And these are the four angels of the Lord of Spirits and the four voices I heard in those days.
Chapter 41
…7 And mighty is His name for ever and ever. And after that I saw the hidden and the visible path of the moon, and she accomplishes the course of her path in that place by day and by night-the one holding a position opposite to the other before the Lord of Spirits. And they give thanks and praise and rest not; For unto them is their thanksgiving rest.
8 For the sun changes oft for a blessing or a curse, and the course of the path of the moon is light to the righteous. And darkness to the sinners in the name of the Lord, who made a separation between the light and the darkness, and divided the spirits of men, and strengthened the spirits of the righteous, in the name of His righteousness.
9 For no angel hinders and no power is able to hinder; for He appoints a judge for them all and He judges them all before Him.
Chapter 45 – Praise God for Your Love and Mercy, Directed Toward those that Love You.
1 And this is the second Parable concerning those who deny the name of the dwelling of the holy ones and the Lord of Spirits.
2 And into the heaven they shall not ascend, and on the earth they shall not come: Such shall be the lot of the sinners who have denied the name of the Lord of Spirits, who are thus preserved for the day of suffering and tribulation.
3 On that day Mine Elect One shall sit on the throne of glory, and shall try their works, and their places of rest shall be innumerable. And their souls shall grow strong within them when they see Mine Elect Ones, and those who have called upon My glorious name:
4 Then will I cause Mine Elect One to dwell among them. And I will transform the heaven and make it an eternal blessing and light,
5 And I will transform the earth and make it a blessing: And I will cause Mine elect ones to dwell upon it: But the sinners and evil-doers shall not set foot thereon.
6 For I have provided and satisfied with peace My righteous ones, and have caused them to dwell before Me: But for the sinners there is judgement impending with Me, so that I shall destroy them from the face of the earth.
Chapter 46: A Warning to Trump, Nuttyahoo and All the Elites of the Earth.
1 And there I saw one who had a head of days, and His head was white like wool, and with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a man, and his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels.
2 And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that Son of Man,
3 who he was, and whence he was, and why he went with the Head of Days? And he answered and said unto me: This is the son of Man who hath righteousness, with whom dwelleth righteousness, and who revealeth all the treasures of that which is hidden, because the Lord of Spirits hath chosen him, and whose lot hath the pre-eminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness for ever.
4 And this Son of Man whom thou hast seen shall raise up the kings and the mighty from their seats, and the strong from their thrones, and shall loosen the reins of the strong, and break the teeth of the sinners.
5 And he shall put down the kings from their thrones and kingdoms because they do not extol and praise Him, nor humbly acknowledge whence the kingdom was bestowed upon them.
6 And he shall put down the countenance of the strong, and shall fill them with shame. And darkness shall be their dwelling, and worms shall be their bed, and they shall have no hope of rising from their beds, because they do not extol the name of the Lord of Spirits.
7 And these are they who judge the stars of heaven, and raise their hands against the Most High, and tread upon the earth and dwell upon it. And all their deeds manifest unrighteousness, and their power rests upon their riches, and their faith is in the gods which they have made with their hands, and they deny the name of the Lord of Spirits,
8 And they persecute the houses of His congregations, and the faithful who hang upon the name of the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 47
1 And in those days shall have ascended the prayer of the righteous, and the blood of the righteous from the earth before the Lord of Spirits.
2 In those days the holy ones who dwell above in the heavens shall unite with one voice and supplicate and pray and praise, and give thanks and bless the name of the Lord of Spirits on behalf of the blood of the righteous which has been shed, and that the prayer of the righteous may not be in vain before the Lord of Spirits, that judgement may be done unto them, and that they may not have to suffer for ever.
3 In those days I saw the Head of Days when He seated himself upon the throne of His glory, and the books of the living were opened before Him: And all His host which is in heaven above and His counselors stood before Him,
4 And the hearts of the holy were filled with joy; Because the number of the righteous had been offered, and the prayer of the righteous had been heard, and the blood of the righteous been required before the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 48
1 And in that place I saw the fountain of righteousness which was inexhaustible: And around it were many fountains of wisdom: And all the thirsty drank of them, and were filled with wisdom, and their dwellings were with the righteous and holy and elect.
2 And at that hour that Son of Man was named In the presence of the Lord of Spirits, and his name before the Head of Days.
3 Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of the heaven were made, his name was named before the Lord of Spirits.
4 He shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall, and he shall be the light of the Gentiles, and the hope of those who are troubled of heart.
5 All who dwell on earth shall fall down and worship before him, and will praise and bless and celebrate with song the Lord of Spirits.
6 And for this reason hath he been chosen and hidden before Him, before the creation of the world and for evermore.
7 And the wisdom of the Lord of Spirits hath revealed him to the holy and righteous; For he hath preserved the lot of the righteous, because they have hated and despised this world of unrighteousness, and have hated all its works and ways in the name of the Lord of Spirits: For in his name they are saved, and according to his good pleasure hath it been in regard to their life.
8 In these days downcast in countenance shall the kings of the earth have become, and the strong who possess the land because of the works of their hands, for on the day of their anguish and affliction they shall not (be able to) save themselves. And I will give them over into the hands of Mine elect:
9 As straw in the fire so shall they bur n before the face of the holy: As lead in the water shall they sink before the face of the righteous, and no trace of them shall any more be found.
10 And on the day of their affliction there shall be rest on the earth, and before them they shall fall and not rise again: And there shall be no one to take them with his hands and raise them: For they have denied the Lord of Spirits and His Anointed. The name of the Lord of Spirits be blessed.
Chapter 49
1 For wisdom is poured out like water, and glory faileth not before him for evermore.
2 For he is mighty in all the secrets of righteousness, and unrighteousness shall disappear as a shadow, and have no continuance; Because the Elect One standeth before the Lord of Spirits, and his glory is for ever and ever, and his might unto all generations.
3 And in him dwells the spirit of wisdom, and the spirit which gives insight, and the spirit of understanding and of might, and the spirit of those who have fallen asleep in righteousness.
4 And he shall judge the secret things, and none shall be able to utter a lying word before him; For he is the Elect One before the Lord of Spirits according to His good pleasure.
Chapter 50
1 And in those days a change shall take place for the holy and elect, and the light of days shall abide upon them, and glory and honour shall turn to the holy,
2 On the day of affliction on which evil shall have been treasured up against the sinners. And the righteous shall be victorious in the name of the Lord of Spirits: And He will cause the others to witness this that they may repent, and forgot the works of their hands.
3 They shall have no honour through the name of the Lord of Spirits, yet through His name shall they be saved, and the Lord of Spirits will have compassion on them, for His compassion is great.
4 And He is righteous also in His judgement, and in the presence of His glory unrighteousness also shall not maintain itself: At His judgement the unrepentant shall perish before Him.
5 And from henceforth I will have no mercy on them, saith the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 51
1 And in those days shall the earth also give back that which has been entrusted to it, and Sheol also shall give back that which it has received, and hell shall give back that which it owes. For in those days the Elect One shall arise,
2 And he shall choose the righteous and holy from among them: For the day has drawn nigh that they should be saved.
3 And the Elect One shall in those days sit on My throne, and his mouth shall pour forth all the secrets of wisdom and counsel: For the Lord of Spirits hath given (them) to him and hath glorified him.
4 And in those days shall the mountains leap like rams, and the hills also shall skip like lambs satisfied with milk,
5 And the faces of all the angels in heaven shall be lighted up with joy. And the earth shall rejoice, and the righteous shall dwell upon it, and the elect shall walk thereon.
Chapter 52
1 And after those days in that place where I had seen all the visions of that which is hidden,
2 For I had been carried off in a whirlwind and they had borne me towards the west-there mine eyes saw all the secret things of heaven that shall be, a mountain of iron, and a mountain of copper, and a mountain of silver, and a mountain of gold, and a mountain of soft metal, and a mountain of lead.
3 And I asked the angel who went with me, saying, What things are these which I have seen in secret?
4 And he said unto me: All these things which thou hast seen shall serve the dominion of His Anointed that he may be potent and mighty on the earth.
5 And that angel of peace answered, saying unto me: Wait a little, and there shall be revealed unto thee all the secret things which surround the Lord of Spirits.
6 And these mountains which thine eyes have seen, the mountain of iron, and the mountain of copper, and the mountain of silver, and the mountain of gold, and the mountain of soft metal, and the mountain of lead, all theseshall be in the presence of the Elect One as wax: before the fire, and like the water which streams down from above upon those mountains, and they shall become powerless before his feet.
7 And it shall come to pass in those days that none shall be saved, either by gold or by silver, and none be able to escape.
8 And there shall be no iron for war, nor shall one clothe oneself with a breastplate. Bronze shall be of no service, and tin [shall be of no service and] shall not be esteemed, and lead shall not be desired.
9 And all these things shall be [denied and] destroyed from the surface of the earth, when the Elect One shall appear before the face of the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 53
1 There mine eyes saw a deep valley with open mouths, and all who dwell on the earth and sea and islands shall bring to him gifts and presents and tokens of homage, but that deep valley shall not become full.
2 And their hands commit lawless deeds, and the sinners devour all whom they lawlessly oppress: Yet the sinners shall be destroyed before the face of the Lord of Spirits, and they shall be banished from off the face of His earth, and they shall perish for ever and ever.
3 For I saw all the angels of punishment abiding there and preparing all the instruments of Satan.
4 And I asked the angel of peace who went with me: For whom are they preparing these instruments?
5 And he said unto me: They prepare these for the kings and the mighty of this earth, that they may thereby be destroyed.
6 And after this the Righteous and Elect One shall cause the house of his congregation to appear: henceforth they shall be no more hindered in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
7 And these mountains shall not stand as the earth before his righteousness, but the hills shall be as a fountain of water, and the righteous shall have rest from the oppression of sinners.
Chapter 54
1 And I looked and turned to another part of the earth, and saw there a deep valley with burning fire.
2 And they brought the kings and the mighty, and began to cast them into this deep valley.
3 And there mine eyes saw how they made these their instruments, iron chains of immeasurable weight.
4 And I asked the angel of peace who went with me, saying: For whom are these chains being prepared?
5 And he said unto me: These are being prepared for the hosts of Azazel, so that they may take them and cast them into the abyss of complete condemnation, and they shall cover their jaws with rough stones as the Lord of Spirits commanded.
6 And Michael, and Gabriel, and Raphael, and Phanuel shall take hold of them on that great day, and cast them on that day into the burning furnace, that the Lord of Spirits may take vengeance on them for their unrighteousness in becoming subject to Satan and leading astray those who dwell on the earth.
7 And in those days shall punishment come from the Lord of Spirits, and he will open all the chambers of waters which are above the heavens, and of the fountains which are beneath the earth.
8 And all the waters shall be joined with the waters: that which is above the heavens is the masculine,
9 And the water which is beneath the earth is the feminine. And they shall destroy all who dwell on the earth,
10 And those who dwell under the ends of the heaven. And when they have recognized their unrighteousness which they have wrought on the earth, then by these shall they perish.
Chapter 55
1 And after that the Head of Days repented and said: In vain have I destroyed all who dwell on the earth.
2 And He sware by His great name: Henceforth I will not do so to all who dwell on the earth, and I will set a sign in the heaven: and this shall be a pledge of good faith between Me and them for ever, so long as heaven is above the earth. And this is in accordance with My command.
3 When I have desired to take hold of them by the hand of the angels on the day of tribulation and pain because of this, I will cause My chastisement and My wrath to abide upon them, saith God, the Lord of Spirits.
4 Ye mighty kings who dwell on the earth, ye shall have to behold Mine Elect One, how he sits on the throne of glory and judges Azazel, and all his associates, and all his hosts in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 56
Iran attacked by the evil Kings of the Earth,
“And in those days the angels shall return, and hurl themselves to the east upon the Parthians and Medes: They shall stir up the kings, so that a spirit of unrest shall come upon them, and they shall rouse them from their thrones, that they may break forth as lions from their lairs, and as hungry wolves among their flocks.”
I published this chapter earlier in discussing the current was with Iran.
1 And I saw there the hosts of the angels of punishment going, and they held scourges and chains of iron and bronze. And I asked the angel of peace who went with me, saying:
2 To whom are these who hold the scourges going? And he said unto me:
3 To their elect and beloved ones, that they may be cast into the chasm of the abyss of the valley.
4 And then that valley shall be filled with their elect and beloved, And the days of their lives shall be at an end, And the days of their leading astray shall not thenceforward be reckoned.
5 And in those days the angels shall return, and hurl themselves to the east upon the Parthians and Medes: They shall stir up the kings, so that a spirit of unrest shall come upon them, and they shall rouse them from their thrones, that they may break forth as lions from their lairs, and as hungry wolves among their flocks.
6 And they shall go up and tread under foot the land of His elect ones, and the land of His elect ones shall be before the m a threshing-floor and a highway :
7 But the city of my righteous shall be a hindrance to their horses. And they shall begin to fight among themselves, and their right hand shall be strong against themselves, and a man shall not know his brother, nor a son his father or his mother, till there be no number of the corpses through their slaughter, and their punishment be not in vain.
8 In those days Sheol shall open its jaws, and they shall be swallowed up therein, and their destruction shall be at an end; Sheol shall devour the sinners in the presence of the elect.
Chapter 57
1 And it came to pass after this that I saw another host of wagons, and men riding thereon,
2 And coming on the winds from the east, and from the west to the south. And the noise of their wagons was heard, and when this turmoil took place the holy ones from heaven remarked it, and the pillars of the earth were moved from their place, and the sound thereof was heard from the one end of heaven to the other, in one day.
3 And they shall all fall down and worship the Lord of Spirits. And this is the end of the second Parable
Chapter 58
1 And I began to speak the third Parable concerning the righteous and elect.
2 Blessed are ye, ye righteous and elect, for glorious shall be your lot.
3 And the righteous shall be in the light of the sun. And the elect in the light of eternal life: The days of their life shall be unending, and the days of the holy without number.
4 And they shall seek the light and find righteousness with the Lord of Spirits: There shall be peace to the righteous in the name of the Eternal Lord.
5 And after this it shall be said to the holy in heaven that they should seek out the secrets of righteousness, the heritage of faith: For it has become bright as the sun upon earth, and the darkness is past.
6 And there shall be a light that never endeth, and to a limit of days they shall not come, for the darkness shall first have been destroyed, and the light established before the Lord of Spirits, and the light of uprightness established for ever before the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 61 The Ophannin Praise the Elect One.
….10. And He will summon all the host of the heavens, and all the holy ones above, and the host of God, the Cherubic, Seraphin and Ophannin, and all the angels of power, and all the angels of principalities, and the Elect One, and the other powers on the earth (and) over the water. 11. On that day shall raise one voice, and bless and glorify and exalt in the spirit of faith, and in the spirit of wisdom, and in the spirit of patience, and in the spirit of mercy, and in the spirit of judgement and of peace, and in the spirit of goodness, and shall all say with one voice: ” Blessed is He, and may the name of the Lord of Spirits be blessed for ever and ever.”
12. All who sleep not above in heaven shall bless Him:
All the holy ones who are in heaven shall bless Him,
And all the elect who dwell in the garden of life:
And every spirit of light who is able to bless, and glorify, and extol, and hallow Thy blessed name,
And all flesh shall beyond measure glorify and bless Thy name for ever and ever.
13. For great is the mercy of the Lord of Spirits, and He is long-suffering,
And all His works and all that He has created He has revealed to the righteous and elect
Chapter 62
1. And thus the Lord commanded the kings and the mighty and the exalted, and those who dwell on the earth, and said:
‘ Open your eyes and lift up your horns if ye are able to recognize the Elect One.’
2. And the Lord of Spirits seated him on the throne of His glory,
And the spirit of righteousness was poured out upon him,
And the word of his mouth slays all the sinners,
And all the unrighteous are destroyed from before his face.
3. And there shall stand up in that day all the kings and the mighty,
And the exalted and those who hold the earth,
And they shall see and recognize How he sits on the throne of his glory,
And righteousness is judged before him,
And no lying word is spoken before him.
4. Then shall pain come upon them as on a woman in travail,
[And she has pain in bringing forth]
When her child enters the mouth of the womb,
And she has pain in bringing forth.
5. And one portion of them shall look on the other,
And they shall be terrified,
And they shall be downcast of countenance,
And pain shall seize them,
When they see that Son of Man Sitting on the throne of his glory.
6. And the kings and the mighty and all who possess the earth shall bless and glorify and extol him who rules over all, who was hidden.
7. For from the beginning the Son of Man was hidden,
And the Most High preserved him in the presence of His might,
And revealed him to the elect.
8. And the congregation of the elect and holy shall be sown,
And all the elect shall stand before him on that day.
9. And all the kings and the mighty and the exalted and those who rule the earth
Shall fall down before him on their faces,
And worship and set their hope upon that Son of Man,
And petition him and supplicate for mercy at his hands.
10. .Nevertheless that Lord of Spirits will so press them
That they shall hastily go forth from His presence,
And their faces shall be filled with shame,
And the darkness grow deeper on their faces.
11. And He will deliver them to the angels for punishment,
To execute vengeance on them because they have oppressed His children and His elect
12. And they shall be a spectacle for the righteous and for His elect:
They shall rejoice over them,
Because the wrath of the Lord of Spirits resteth upon them,
And His sword is drunk with their blood.
13. And the righteous and elect shall be saved on that day,
And they shall never thenceforward see the face of the sinners and unrighteous.
14. And the Lord of Spirits will abide over them,
And with that Son of Man shall they eat
And lie down and rise up for ever and ever.
15. And the righteous and elect shall have risen from the earth,
And ceased to be of downcast countenance.
And they shall have been clothed with garments of glory,
16. And these shall be the garments of life from the Lord of Spirits:
And your garments shall not grow old,
Nor your glory pass away before the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 65
1. In those days shall the mighty and the kings who possess the earth implore (Him) to grant them a little respite from His angels of punishment to whom they were delivered, that they might fall down and worship before the Lord of Spirits, and confess their sins before Him. 2. And they shall bless and glorify the Lord of Spirits, and say:
‘ Blessed is the Lord of Spirits and the Lord of kings,
And the Lord of the mighty and the Lord of the rich,
And the Lord of glory and the Lord of wisdom,
3. And splendid in every secret thing is Thy power from generation to generation,
And Thy glory for ever and ever:
Deep are all Thy secrets and innumerable,
And Thy righteousness is beyond reckoning.
4. We have now learnt that we should glorify
And bless the Lord of kings and Him who is king over all kings.’
5. And they shall say:
‘ Would that we had rest to glorify and give thanks
And confess our faith before His glory !
6. And now we long for a little rest but find it not:
We follow hard upon and obtain (it) not:
And light has vanished from before us,
And darkness is our dwelling-place for ever and ever:
7. For we have not believed before Him
Nor glorified the name of the Lord of Spirits, [nor glorified our Lord]
But our hope was in the sceptre of our kingdom,
And in our glory.
8. And in the day of our suffering and tribulation He saves us not,
And we find no respite for confession
That our Lord is true in all His works, and in His judgements and His justice,
And His judgements have no respect of persons.
9. And we pass away from before His face on account of our works,
And all our sins are reckoned up in righteousness.’
10. Now they shall say unto themselves: ‘ Our souls are full of unrighteous gain, but it does not prevent us from descending from the midst thereof into the burden of Sheol.’
11. And after that their faces shall be filled with darkness
And shame before that Son of Man,
And they shall be driven from his presence,
And the sword shall abide before his face in their midst.
12. Thus spake the Lord of Spirits: ‘ This is the ordinance and judgement with respect to the mighty and the kings and the exalted and those who possess the earth before the Lord of Spirits.’
Chapter 68
And after that my grandfather Enoch gave me the teaching of all the secrets in the book in the Parables which had been given to him, and he put them together for me in the words of the book of the Parables. 2.
And on that day Michael answered Raphael and said: ‘ The power of the spirit transports and makes me to tremble because of the severity of the judgement of the secrets, the judgement of the angels: who can endure the severe judgement which has been executed, and before which they melt away ? ‘ 3.
And Michael answered again, and said to Raphael: ‘ Who is he whose heart is not softened concerning it, and whose reins are not troubled by this word of judgement (that)
has gone forth upon them because of those who have thus led them out ? ‘ 4.
And it came to pass when he stood before the Lord of Spirits, Michael said thus to Raphael: ‘ I will not take their part under the eye of the Lord; for the Lord of Spirits has been angry with them because they do as if they were the Lord. 5.
Therefore all that is hidden shall come upon them for ever and ever; for neither angel nor man shall have his portion (in it)
, but alone they have received their judgement for ever and ever.
Chapter 69 In This Verse Angels are punished for teaching man how to abort fetuses. Remember this was written in 1-200 BCE
1. And after this judgement they shall terrify and make them to tremble because they have shown this to those who dwell on the earth.
2. And behold the names of those angels [and these are their names: the first of them is Samjaza, the second Artaqifa, and the third Armen, the fourth Kokabel, the fifth Turael, the sixth Rumjal, the seventh Danjal, the eighth Neqael, the ninth Baraqel, the tenth Azazel, the eleventh Armaros, the twelfth Batarjal, the thirteenth Busasejal, the fourteenth Hananel, the fifteenth Turel, and the sixteenth Simapesiel, the seventeenth Jetrel, the eighteenth Tumael, the nineteenth Turel, the twentieth Rumael, the twenty-first Azazel. 3. And these are the chiefs of their angels and their names, and their chief ones over hundreds and over fifties and over tens].
4. The name of the first Jeqon: that is, the one who led astray [all] the sons of God, and brought them down to the earth, and led them astray through the daughters of men.
5. And the second was named Asbeel: he imparted to the holy sons of God evil counsel, and led them astray so that they defiled their bodies with the daughters of men. 6. And the third was named Gadreel: he it is who showed the children of men all the blows of death, and he led astray Eve, and showed [the weapons of death to the sons of men] the shield and the coat of mail, and the sword for battle, and all the weapons of death to the children of men. 7. And from his hand they have proceeded against those who dwell on the earth from that day and for evermore. 8. And the fourth was named Penemue: he taught the children of men the bitter and the sweet, and he taught them all the secrets of their wisdom. 9. And he instructed mankind in writing with ink and paper, and thereby many sinned from eternity to eternity and until this day. 10. For men were not created for such a purpose, to give confirmation to their good faith with pen and ink. 11. For men were created exactly like the angels, to the intent that they should continue pure and righteous, and death, which destroys everything, could not have taken hold of them, but through this their knowledge they are perishing, and through this power it is consuming me. 12. And the fifth was named Kasdeja: this is he who showed the children of men all the wicked smitings of spirits and demons, and the smitings of the embryo in the womb, that it may pass away, and [the smitings of the soul] the bites of the serpent, and the smitings which befall through the noontide heat, the son of the serpent named Taba’et. 13. And this is the task of Kasbeel, the chief of the oath which he showed to the holy ones when he dwelt high 4 above in glory, and its name is Biqa. 14. This (angel) requested Michael to show him the hidden name, that he might enunciate it in the oath, so that those might quake before that name and oath who revealed all that was in secret to the children of men. 15. And this is the power of this oath, for it is powerful and strong, and he placed this oath Akae in the hand of Michael. 16. And these are the secrets of this oath {. . .}
And they are strong through his oath:
And the heaven was suspended before the world was created,
And for ever…
25. And this oath is mighty over them
And through it [they are preserved and] their paths are preserved,
And their course is not destroyed.
26. And there was great joy amongst them,
And they blessed and glorified and extolled
Because the name of that Son of Man had been revealed unto them.
27. And he sat on the throne of his glory,
And the sum of judgement was given unto the Son of Man,
And he caused the sinners to pass away and be destroyed from off the face of the earth,
And those who have led the world astray.
28. With chains shall they be bound,
And in their assemblage-place of destruction shall they be imprisoned,
And all their works vanish from the face of the earth.
29. And from henceforth there shall be nothing corruptible;
For that Son of Man has appeared,
And has seated himself on the throne of his glory,
And all evil shall pass away before his face,
And the word of that Son of Man shall go forth
And be strong before the Lord of Spirits.
Chapter 70
1. And it came to pass after this that his name during his lifetime was raised aloft to that Son of Man and to the Lord of Spirits from amongst those who dwell on the earth.
2. And he was raised aloft on the chariots of the spirit and his name vanished among them. .
3. And from that day I was no longer numbered amongst them: and he set me between the two winds, between the North and the 4 4. West, where the angels took the cords to measure for me the place for the elect and righteous.
And there I saw the first fathers and the righteous who from the beginning dwell in that place.
Chapter 71
1. And it came to pass after this that my spirit was translated
And it ascended into the heavens:
And I saw the holy sons of God.
They were stepping on flames of fire:
Their garments were white [and their raiment],
And their faces shone like snow.
2. And I saw two streams of fire,
And the light of that fire shone like hyacinth,
And I fell on my face before the Lord of Spirits.
3. And the angel Michael [one of the archangels] seized me by my right hand,
And lifted me up and led me forth into all the secrets,
And he showed me all the secrets of righteousness.
4. And he showed me all the secrets of the ends of the heaven,
And all the chambers of all the stars, and all the luminaries,
Whence they proceed before the face of the holy ones.
5. And he translated my spirit into the heaven of heavens,
And I saw there as it were a structure built of crystals,
And between those crystals tongues of living fire.
6. And my spirit saw the girdle which girt that house of fire,
And on its four sides were streams full of living fire,
And they girt that house.
7. And round about were Seraphin, Cherubic, and Ophannin:
And these are they who sleep not
And guard the throne of His glory.
8. And I saw angels who could not be counted,
A thousand thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand,
Encircling that house.
And Michael, and Raphael, and Gabriel, and Phanuel,
And the holy angels who are above the heavens,
Go in and out of that house.
9. And they came forth from that house,
And Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel,
And many holy angels without number.
10. And with them the Head of Days,
His head white and pure as wool,
And His raiment indescribable.
11. And I fell on my face,
And my whole body became relaxed,
And my spirit was transfigured;
And I cried with a loud voice, . . .
with the spirit of power,
And blessed and glorified and extolled.
12. And these blessings which went forth out of my mouth were well pleasing before that Head of Days.
13. And that Head of Days came with Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, thousands and ten thousands of angels without number.
14. And he (i.e. the angel) came to me and greeted me with His voice, and said unto me ‘
This is the Son of Man who is born unto righteousness,
And righteousness abides over him,
And the righteousness of the Head of Days forsakes him not.’
15. And he said unto me:
‘ He proclaims unto thee peace in the name of the world to come;
For from hence has proceeded peace since the creation of the world,
And so shall it be unto thee for ever and for ever and ever.
16. And all shall walk in his ways since righteousness never forsaketh him:
With him will be their dwelling-places, and with him their heritage,
And they shall not be separated from him for ever and ever and ever.
17. And so there shall be length of days with that Son of Man,
And the righteous shall have peace and an upright way
In the name of the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.’
Chapter 80
1. And in those days the angel Uriel answered and said to me: ‘ Behold, I have shown thee everything, Enoch, and I have revealed everything to thee that thou shouldst see this sun and this moon, and the leaders of the stars of the heaven and all those who turn them, their tasks and times and departures.
2. And in the days of the sinners the years shall be shortened,
And their seed shall be tardy on their lands and fields,
And all things on the earth shall alter,
And shall not appear in their time:
And the rain shall be kept back
And the heaven shall withhold (it).
3. And in those times the fruits of the earth shall be backward,
And shall not grow in their time,
And the fruits of the trees shall be withheld in their time.
4. And the moon shall alter her order,
And not appear at her time.
5. [And in those days the sun shall be seen and he shall journey in the evening on the extremity of the great chariot in the west]
And shall shine more brightly than accords with the order of light.
6. And many chiefs of the stars shall transgress the order (prescribed).
And these shall alter their orbits and tasks,
And not appear at the seasons prescribed to them.
7. And the whole order of the stars shall be concealed from the sinners,
And the thoughts of those on the earth shall err concerning them,
[And they shall be altered from all their ways],
Yea, they shall err and take them to be gods.
8. And evil shall be multiplied upon them,
And punishment shall come upon them So as to destroy all.’
From AI: The eyes and wheels of the Ophanim carry profound historical and symbolic meanings rooted in ancient Near Eastern culture and cosmic theology.
Symbolic Meaning of the Wheels
- Omnipresence: Moving in any direction without turning symbolizes God’s ability to exist and act everywhere simultaneously.
- Cosmic Order: The circular shape represents the cyclical nature of time, seasons, and the turning of the cosmos.
- The Divine Throne: In the ancient Near East, kings traveled on massive, ornate chariots. The wheels represent God’s mobile, unstoppable royal throne.
- Material and Spiritual Link: Intersecting wheels (“a wheel within a wheel”) represent the intersection of heaven and earth.
Symbolic Meaning of the Eyes
- Omniscience: A rim covered in eyes represents all-seeing, infinite divine knowledge. Nothing is hidden from God.
- Sleepless Vigilance: The eyes show that these celestial beings are cosmic guardians, eternally awake and watching over the universe.
- Ancient Royal Imagery: Persian kings used network spies called “the eyes and ears of the king.” The eyes mirror this concept on a cosmic scale.
Historical Context
- Babylonian Influence: Ezekiel wrote these descriptions while exiled in Babylon.
- Astrological Connections: The wheels resemble ancient Babylonian zodiac wheels or depictions of the night sky, which was viewed as a dome of “eyes” (stars).
- Breaking Localized Gods: Ancient peoples believed gods only had power in their specific territories. The multi-directional wheel-beings proved to the exiled Jews that their God was mobile, universal, and supreme over Babylon
In ancient theological texts, the Ophanim do not speak or interact directly with humans. Unlike lower-ranking messenger angels (like Gabriel or Michael) who take human form to deliver messages, the Ophanim belong to the highest sphere of celestial beings. Their purpose is to serve as the living, inanimate-yet-conscious vehicle for God’s presence.
However, humans have witnessed them in ecstatic visions, where their movement and presence communicate an immense theological reality.
1. Ezekiel’s Vision by the Chebar River (Ezekiel 1 & 10)
- The Encounter: The prophet Ezekiel is the only biblical author to explicitly document a visual encounter with the Ophanim. He sees them moving in perfect synchronization with the Cherubim beneath the crystalline throne of God.
- The Interaction: The Ophanim themselves do not speak to Ezekiel. Instead, their terrifying, eye-covered structure acts as a sensory bridge. Their “voice” is described not as speech, but as the overwhelming sound of rushing waters or a shouting army when they move. It is only after the Ophanim transport God’s presence into Ezekiel’s vision that the voice of God Himself speaks to give the prophet his mission.
2. Enoch’s Journey Through the Heavens (1 Enoch 61 & 71)
- The Encounter: In the apocryphal Book of Enoch, the patriarch Enoch is taken on a guided tour of the spiritual realms by intermediary angels. He is allowed to see the outer courtyard of the divine throne room.
- The Interaction: Enoch observes the Ophanim alongside the Seraphim and Cherubim. He notes that they do not sleep and are tasked with guarding the throne of glory. While Enoch stands in their presence and writes down what they look like, the Ophanim do not break their eternal focus on God to speak to him.
3. The Chariot Kavod in the Dead Sea Scrolls (4Q405)
- The Encounter: Found in the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice, these texts describe highly detailed liturgical visions used by the Qumran community to experience heavenly worship.
- The Interaction: The texts describe the galgalim (wheels) actively praising God alongside other spirits. The human participants “listen” to the praise of the wheels, using the description of the Ophanim’s movements as a way to spiritually join the heavenly choir.
Why Don’t They Talk to Humans?
In medieval theological frameworks, such as Pseudo-Dionysius’s Celestial Hierarchy, angels are divided into functions. The Ophanim (often called Thrones) are designated strictly for contemplation, divine justice, and bearing God’s weight. Direct human interaction is delegated entirely to the lowest tier of angels—Archangels and Angels—who possess the localized, humanoid forms necessary to speak to mankind without overwhelming the human mind.
In De Coelesti Hierarchia (“On the Celestial Hierarchy”), the 5th-century theologian Pseudo-Dionysius roups the Opphanim into the highest angelic tier and equates them with “Thrones.” Rather than focusing on their physical appearance as literal wheels, his text reinterprets their scriptural descriptions through a lens of mystical contemplation and Neoplatonic philosophy.
The text highlights specific spiritual principles concerning them:
1. Placement in the First Hierarchy
- Highest Choir: He places the Thrones/Ophanim in the First Sphere alongside the Seraphim and Cherubim.
- Direct Proximity: This triad is characterized by being immediately present with God, receiving divine light directly without any secondary angelic intermediaries.
2. Meaning of the Name “Thrones”
- Unshakable Foundation: Pseudo-Dionysius states that the name “Thrones” signifies a complete exemption from any base, earthly contamination.
- Bearing the Divine: The name indicates their capacity to carry God, acting as a stable, spiritual seat upon which the divine presence rests.
- Godlike Receptivity: They are perfectly open to receiving God’s arrivals and are wide open to the supreme divine attachments.
3. Reinterpreting the “Wheels”
- Supermundane Ascent: The wheel-like motion (galgalim) is interpreted as an intellectual, upward revolution. They are constantly moving forward on a spiritual path toward the highest peak of the godhead.
- Unswerving Progression: Their multi-directional, non-turning movement is explained as their unswerving, unchanging adherence to God’s straight path.
4. Role in Divine Justice
- Instruments of Authority: Pseudo-Dionysius defines them as the executors of righteous judgment.
- Distributing Light: They receive the judicial decrees of God and peacefully transmit that ordered, cosmic harmony downward to the lower angelic ranks
n the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas expanded on Pseudo-Dionysius’s work in his masterpiece, the Summa Theologiae [1]. Aquinas systematically blended Christian theology with Aristotelian philosophy [1], providing a precise logical framework for how the Ophanim (Thrones) function, think, and process divine knowledge [1].
1. Definition of Their Specific Spiritual Gift
While Pseudo-Dionysius focused on the Thrones as God’s literal “seats,” Aquinas clarified the exact intellectual distinction between the top three choirs:
- Seraphim excel in charity and love (burning fire) .
- Cherubim excel in perfect knowledge (all-seeing minds) .
- Thrones (Ophanim) excel in divine judgment. Aquinas argued that a judge must be a “seat” of justice, completely unshakeable and impartial [1]. Therefore, God sits upon them to cast His holy judgments down to the universe.
2. How They Receive Information (The Hierarchy of Light)
Aquinas introduced a rigorous philosophical theory on how angels “think” and pass information down
- Direct Illumination: Because the Ophanim are in the first hierarchy, they do not learn from nature or lower angels. They receive pure, unclouded light directly from God Universal Truths: The Ophanim see the world through highly generalized, universal concepts [1]. While a human mind needs to see a thousand examples to understand a concept, an Ophanim sees the entire reality of divine justice in a single, simple idea given to them by God [1].
- Angelic “Demotion” of Data: The Ophanim take this overwhelming, abstract divine light and “break it down” into smaller, more understandable concepts. They then pass this simplified information down to the second hierarchy (Dominions, Virtues, and Powers) [1].
- 3. The Rejection of Physical Wheels
- Aquinas applied strict Aristotelian physics to spiritual beings [1]. He argued that angels are completely immaterial, purely intellectual spirits [1].
- Metaphorical Anatomy: He explicitly stated that the Ophanim do not have literal eyes, rims, metal, or wheels.
- Spiritual Motion: The “wheel within a wheel” movement praised by Ezekiel was explained by Aquinas as the perfect, continuous circular motion of an intellect contemplating the ultimate truth (God) without ever getting distracted or stopping [1].
- 4. Assignment to the Son
- In Summa Theologiae (Question 108), Aquinas aligned the three highest choirs with the Holy Trinity. He assigned the Thrones to God the Son (The Word) because the Son represents Divine Wisdom and Righteous Judgment, matching the Thrones’ core purpose of executing cosmic justice.

n Eastern religious traditions (such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Taoism), there are no direct equivalents to the monotheistic Abrahamic angels. However, these traditions feature powerful celestial beings, cosmic wheels, and multi-eyed entities that share striking symbolic and visual parallels with the Ophanim (Galgalim).
The closest matches across Eastern traditions focus on cosmic order, divine transport, and universal vision:
1. Hinduism: The Chakras, Lokapalas, and Garuda
- Cosmic and Chariot Wheels (Chakras): In the Rigveda, the universe and time are frequently described as a massive wheel with twelve spokes (the zodiac) or a wheel that turns endlessly (Samsara-chakra). The Sun God, Surya, rides a cosmic chariot driven by wheels that represent the rhythmic order of the cosmos (Rta), mirroring the Ophanim’s role as the mobile throne of divine order.
- The Vishvarupa (The Ultimate Multi-Eyed Form): In the Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 11), Lord Krishna reveals his supreme cosmic form, the Vishvarupa. Arjuna describes this being as having infinite eyes, faces, and blazing fire stretching across the entire universe. Like Ezekiel’s vision of the Ophanim and Cherubim, it is an overwhelming, non-human manifestation of the godhead covered in eyes.
- The Dikpalas / Lokapalas: These are the celestial guardians of the directional quadrants of the universe. While they have human or animal features rather than wheels, their function mimics the Ophanim’s role as cosmic sentinels guarding the divine layout of creation.
2. Buddhism: The Dharmachakra and the Wrathful Deities.
- The Wheel of Dharma (Dharmachakra): The most direct conceptual match to the Galgalim (wheels) is the Dharmachakra. It is a multi-spoked wheel representing the cosmic law, the turning of spiritual evolution, and the sovereignty of the Buddha’s teachings. In early Buddhist art, the Buddha was not shown as a human, but abstractly represented by this living, radiant wheel.
- Chakravartin (Wheel-Turning Monarch): A supreme, benevolent world ruler in Buddhist cosmology possesses a magical, spinning jewel-wheel (Chakra-ratna) that flies through the heavens ahead of his army, clearing the path and establishing cosmic righteousness.
- Multi-Eyed Wrathful Deities: In Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism, cosmic protectors (such as Mahakala or Palden Lhamo) are depicted with a third eye of wisdom or body parts covered in eyes. This symbolizes absolute omniscience, sleepless vigilance, and the destruction of ignorance, perfectly mirroring the symbolic meaning of the Ophanim’s eye-covered rims.
3. Taoism: The Taiji and the Jade Emperor’s Chariot
- The Taiji (The Supreme Ultimate): In Taoist cosmology, the foundational movements of the universe are represented by the spinning, cyclical rotation of the Taiji (Yin and Yang wheel). It is an abstract, ever-moving wheel that dictates the flow of the Tao (the Way) through existence.
- The Chariot of the Big Dipper: The Jade Emperor and high Taoist deities ride through the heavens on celestial chariots explicitly linked to the constellations—particularly the Big Dipper (Beidou). The rotational movement of these stars around the celestial pole acts as the literal “wheels” of the divine heavenly administration.
Direct Comparison: Abrahamic Ophanim vs. Eastern Cosmic Beings
| Feature | Abrahamic Ophanim / Galgalim | Eastern Equivalents (Hindu/Buddhist/Taoist) |
|---|---|---|
| Physical Form | Interlocking wheels within wheels. | The Dharmachakra (Dharma Wheel); Chariot of Surya. |
| The “Eyes” | Omniscience and sleepless cosmic vigilance. | Vishvarupa (infinite eyes); Third eye of wrathful deities. |
| Motion | Moves perfectly straight without turning. | Cyclical cosmic rotation (Samsara or Taiji). |
| Primary Role | Carrying and guarding the Divine Throne. | Upholding cosmic law (Dharma, Rta, or T |
Before the invention of modern telescopes, ancient civilizations looked at the night sky and saw a vast, rotating dome. To the ancient mind, the regular, predictable movement of the stars resembled a giant machine, directly inspiring the mythologies of “wheel-beings” in both the West and the East.

1. The Western View: Babylon, Ezekiel, and the Ecliptic
In the West, the visual structure of the Ophanim reflects how ancient Near Eastern astrologers mapped the sky.
- The Zodiac Ring as the Wheel: Ancient Babylonians (who heavily influenced Ezekiel’s cultural context during the Jewish exile) viewed the equator and the ecliptic—the path the sun, moon, and planets travel across the sky—as giant, intersecting celestial bands. When Ezekiel describes a “wheel within a wheel”, he is describing the visual intersection of these astronomical rings.
- Stars as the “Eyes”: The stars were anciently viewed as the literal “eyes” of heaven watching over the earth. A celestial ring covered in stars perfectly matches Ezekiel’s description of a giant cosmic rim “full of eyes round about.”
- The “Four-Faced” Coordinates: The Ophanim always move in tandem with the four-faced Cherubim (man, lion, ox, eagle). Astronomically, these match the four Royal Stars that marked the cardinal points of the Babylonian night sky: Fomalhaut (Man/Aquarius), Regulus (Lion/Leo), Aldebaran (Ox/Taurus), and Antares (Eagle/Scorpio). The wheels moved with them because they represented the mechanics of the entire turning sky.
- 2. The Eastern View: The Pole Star and Cosmic Chariots
- In Eastern traditions, astronomy shaped the wheel-beings through the lens of axial rotation and solar chariots.
- The Big Dipper as the Sovereign Wheel: In Chinese and Taoist astronomy, the center of the universe is the unchanging Pole Star (Polaris). Rotating around this unmoving pivot point is the Big Dipper constellation (Beidou). Taoists viewed the Big Dipper as the literal celestial chariot wheel of the Jade Emperor. The stars of the constellation were the “eyes” and spokes of a cosmic wheel that dictated the seasons and distributed divine justice.
- The Solar Chariot (Surya’s Chakra): In Hindu Vedic astronomy, time (Kala) is a wheel with 12 spokes, representing the 12 months or signs of the zodiac. The Sun God Surya rides a chariot with a single wheel. This wheel represents the ecliptic line, driven by the cosmic law of Rta (natural and universal order). The stars are the sparkling adornments of this cosmic vehicle.
- Mandalas as Star Maps: The Buddhist Dharmachakra (Wheel of Law) and complex cosmic mandalas function visually as stylized maps of the cosmos. The outer rim represents the boundaries of space, the spokes represent the paths of celestial bodies, and the central hub represents the unshakeable axis of reality—echoing how the Ophanim act as the structural framework holding up the divine throne.
Summary of Astronomical Parallels
| Mythological Concept | Underlying Astronomical Reality |
|---|---|
| “Wheel Within a Wheel” (West) | The intersection of the Celestial Equator and the Ecliptic band. |
| “Rims Full of Eyes” (West & East) | The constellations and stars scattered across the rotating dome of the night sky. |
| Straight Movement Without Turning | The fixed, unalterable trajectory of the stars as the Earth rotates. |
| The Cosmic Chariot Hub (East) | The Pole Star (Polaris) acting as the unmoving center around which the sky turns. |
he Greek philosophical concept of the “Music of the Spheres” (Musica Universalis) and the biblical descriptions of the Ophanim both use acoustic metaphors to explain the mathematical and spiritual harmony of the universe.
When medieval and Renaissance theologians merged Greek philosophy with Judeo-Christian theology, they directly connected the humming celestial spheres of the cosmos to the roaring sounds of the wheel-beings.
1. The Greek “Music of the Spheres” (Pythagoras & Plato)
- The Silent Harmony: Pythagoras discovered that musical intervals could be expressed in mathematical ratios. He and later Plato proposed that the cosmos was made of concentric, transparent crystal spheres holding the planets and stars.
- The Planetary Hum: As these massive celestial spheres rotated around the Earth, their movements generated a unique, continuous musical note based on their distance and speed.
- Cosmic Symphony: Together, these celestial bodies produced a perfect, eternal symphony. Humans cannot hear it simply because we are born into it and have grown accustomed to it as background noise.
2. The Sound of the Ophanim (Ezekiel & Enoch)
In the biblical tradition, the Ophanim are inherently tied to overwhelming sounds:
- The Sound of Tumult: In Ezekiel 1:24, the movement of the wheels and creatures sounds like the “noise of great waters” and “the voice of the Almighty.” Ezekiel 10:5 notes that the sound of their movement could be heard all the way to the outer court of the temple.
- The Song of the Universe: In the apocryphal Book of Enoch and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Ophanim do not just make noise; they sing. They are described as a choir that continuously praises God, echoing their movements through the heavens.
- 3. How Neoplatonists and Medieval Scholars Connected Them
During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, scholars like Christian philosopher Boethius and later astronomers like Johannes Kepler bridged these two worlds, creating a unified theory of celestial mechanics:
Angels as the “Movers” of the Spheres: Medieval theology posited that the physical planets did not move on their own; they were pushed by angels. The Ophanim (Thrones), being the literal wheels of God’s cosmic chariot, were identified as the spiritual intelligences residing within and rotating the planetary spheres.
The Roar vs. The Chord: The connection resolved a paradox. To humans on Earth, the vast mechanics of the universe sound like Ezekiel’s “rushing waters” or an overwhelming thunder—a raw display of pure power. However, to those in the divine realm, that exact same motion translates into the mathematically perfect, beautifully ordered chord of the Music of the Spheres. [1]
The Rotation of Praise: In both systems, the sound is generated strictly by continuous, unswerving rotation. The Greek spheres must spin perfectly to maintain musical harmony; the Ophanim must spin perfectly to maintain cosmic justice and express eternal praise around God’s throne.
Summary of Conceptual Links
| Concept | Greek “Music of the Spheres” | JudeO-Christian Ophanim (Wheels) |
|---|---|---|
| The Visual Mechanism | Concentric, nested crystalline planetary rings. | Interlocking “wheels within wheels.” |
| The Cause of Sound | Friction and movement of the rings spinning in space. | The rapid, synchronized movement of the cosmic wheels. |
| Nature of the Sound | A harmonious, mathematical polyphonic symphony. | The voice of the Almighty / The rush of great waters. |
| Theological Meaning | The rational, geometric order of the universe. | The eternal, living worship and movement of God’s presence. |
There are no accounts in any ancient text or scripture where the Ophanim (or Galgalim) speak prophecy or deliver words to human prophets.
Unlike messengers like Gabriel, the Ophanim do not possess mouths or humanoid forms, nor is it their role to communicate. However, they are deeply involved in the mechanism of prophecy, and they are called upon by a unique celestial voice during a specific prophetic moment.
The Ophanim function during prophetic encounters through the following ways:
1. The Call to the Wheels in Ezekiel 10:13
The closest the Ophanim come to a direct verbal event in scripture occurs in Ezekiel 10:13.
- The Account: As the prophet Ezekiel watches the divine throne chariot prepare to move, he notes: “As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing, ‘The Whirling Wheels’ [Galgal]”.
- The Meaning: The wheels do not speak to the prophet. Instead, Ezekiel overhears a divine, disembodied command addressing the wheels, triggering their motion. The prophetic word is directed at them by God, showing the prophet that the cosmic machinery of history is shifting.
2. Amplifiers of God’s Voice
The Ophanim communicate prophecy through sound and kinetic energy rather than words.
- The Account: In Ezekiel 1:24 and Ezekiel 10:5, the prophet notes that the sound of the wings and the turning wheels is as loud as a shouting army or the voice of God Almighty Himself.
- The Meaning: The roar of the Galgalim acts as a cosmic amplifier. The sound humbles the prophet, driving him to his face in terror. Only after the Ophanim drop their wings and fall silent does the actual verbal prophecy from God begin.
3. The “Unuttered” Prophecy of Divine Judgment
In Jewish Merkabah (Chariot) mysticism, the movements of the Galgalim are themselves considered a visual prophecy.
- The Account: In the Dead Sea Scrolls (4Q405), the wheels do not speak to the sect’s leaders, but they are described as “exulting” and “blessing”.
- The Meaning: For a mystic or a prophet, watching the wheels move perfectly straight without turning (Ezekiel 1:17) was the unuttered prophetic assurance that God’s plan is unalterable, steady, and moving forward to judge the nations.
The Theological Reason for Their Silence
According to historical angelology, angels are divided by task. The lower choirs (Malakim and Archangels) are the only ones designed to step into the physical world, materialize a human voice box, and say, “Thus says the Lord.” The Ophanim exist purely to carry the weight of God’s presence; if they were to try and speak directly to a mortal man, the sheer raw power of their cosmic frequency would destroy the human mind before the message could even be understood.
The Dead Sea Scroll designated as 4Q405 (also known as 4QShirShabbᶠ) is the best-preserved copy of the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice. It is a highly mystical, liturgical text found in Cave 4 at Qumran.
Historically, this specific scroll is groundbreaking because it contains the earliest known text that explicitly elevates the Ophanim from physical chariot parts into living, sentient angels.
The layout, context, and descriptions within 4Q405 shed light on the nature of these entities:
1. The Historical Leap: From Wheels to Angels
In the canonical Book of Ezekiel, the ophanim and galgalim are described primarily as the mechanical parts—the rotating wheels—of God’s chariot throne. Scroll 4Q405 fundamentally changes this. It transitions the wheels into “holy angels” who possess consciousness, perform liturgical duties, and praise God alongside the Cherubim.
2. A “Virtual Tour” of the Heavenly Sanctuary
Scroll 4Q405 originally consisted of 13 individual songs, intended to be recited on consecutive Sabbaths during the first quarter of the year. [1]
- Songs 1–5: Focus on the duties of the angelic priesthood.
- Songs 6–8: Describe the worship and praises sung by the top seven archangels.
- Songs 9–13: Serve as a visionary “virtual tour” moving deeper into the heavenly temple. The text culminates in the inner sanctum, where the author directly describes the living, shifting throne room and the movement of the Ophanim.
3. The Liturgical Movement of the Ophanim
In the Twelfth Song (found in fragments 20–22 of 4Q405), the text details how the architectural elements of heaven come to life to worship God:
- The Living Chariot: The text describes the Merkabah (throne chariot) not as a vehicle, but as a chorus of spirits.
- The Dance of the Wheels: It mentions that when the Ophanim move forward, the holy angels step back. There is a cosmic choreography where the wheels and spirits work in perfect, fluid synchronization.
- Whispering Praises: Instead of just making a roaring noise as in Ezekiel, 4Q405 notes that a sound of “divine whispering” or a smooth murmur rises from the Ophanim and Cherubim as they bless the glory of God.
4. Why the Qumran Community Read It
The Essenes (the sect behind the Dead Sea Scrolls) believed that their earthly worship on the Sabbath happened at the exact same moment as the angelic worship in heaven. By reciting the rhythmic, poetic text of 4Q405, the community believed they were spiritually entering the inner temple, standing alongside the spinning Ophanim, and joining the universal symphony of creation.
In early rabbinic Judaism (spanning roughly the 1st through 10th centuries CE), the practice of Merkabah (Chariot) mysticism was a highly secretive, dangerous form of shamanic meditation. Rather than treating Ezekiel’s vision as a metaphor, ancient mystics sought to personally achieve an altered state of consciousness to navigate the heavenly realms and glimpse the spinning wheels (Galgalim) firsthand.
The exact techniques are recorded in a corpus of manuscripts called the Hekhalot (Palaces) literature.
1. Ascetic Preparation
Before attempting a visionary journey, a rabbi had to reach an extreme state of ritual purity to withstand the intensity of the divine light.
- Severe Fasting: The practitioner would fast for 14 to 40 days, eliminating meat, wine, and heavily seasoned foods.
- Ritual Immersion: Frequent immersions in a mikveh (ritual bath) were required to shed earthly impurities.
- Seclusion: The mystic remained in an isolated, dark room to entirely cut off external sensory input.
2. The Prophetic Posture (Hitbodedut)
To induce the ecstatic state, the practitioner utilized a highly specific physiological trigger known as the “prophetic position”.
- Head Between the Knees: The rabbi sat on the floor, curled tightly into a ball, and placed his head directly between his knees.
- Sensory Deprivation: This compressed posture restricts deep breathing, causes blood pooling, and forces the practitioner to stare into complete darkness, which naturally helps trigger intense, endogenous visual hallucinations.
3. The Liturgical Incantations and Divine Names
The core engine of the ascent was the precise rhythmic chanting of secret formulas.
- The Hymns of Fire: The mystic chanted lengthy, repetitive, and poetic hymns modeled after the songs the angels sing to God.
- The True Names: The practitioner would pronounce highly guarded, complex, multi-syllabic permutations of the Divine Name (Tetragammaton). The resonance of these words was believed to vibrate the soul out of the physical body.
4. Bypassing the Seven Palaces (Hekhalot)
The journey was famously referred to as a “descent to the Chariot” (Yoridei Merkabah), meaning a journey inward into the deepest parts of the cosmic fabric.
- The Seven Gates: The soul traveled up or through seven concentric heavenly palaces (Hekhalot).
- Angel Seals: Each palace was guarded by terrifying angels of wrath and fire. If the rabbi chanted the wrong code or misspelled a seal, the literature states the guardians would instantly burn or strike the mystic dead.
- The Ocean Mirror: At the sixth palace, mystics were tested by a visual illusion where the floor appeared to be made of rushing water. If the mystic cried out in fear, they were deemed unworthy and cast down.
5. Glimpsing the Shifting Mechanics
If the mystic successfully breached the seventh palace, they stood before the Throne Charict (Merkabah).
The text describes this ultimate vision not as an encounter with a static throne, but as a fluid, spinning vortex. The rabbi would witness the flaming interlocking rings of the Galgalim turning, their rims covered in hyper-detailed arrays of cosmic eyes, all vibrating to the deafening roar of the Kedushah—the angelic hymn, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts.” The experience was so intense that texts note the mystics themselves were often temporarily transformed into beings of pure fire.
As did I when I travelled to the Akashic realm of Fire. Oh my God, I am getting the indwelling and the love and light of God which are flowing into my crown and down my body like the flow that Christ speaks about as the celestial baptism of light. So the Ophanim came to prepare me for my later ascent into the Akashic realm.
The Hymns of Fire
The hymns of fire in Hekhalot literature consist of ecstatic, rhythmic, and repetitive chants designed to emulate the celestial songs of angels surrounding the divine throne. Key examples from Hekhalot Rabbati and Ma’aseh Merkabah, often featuring intense imagery of fire and mystical names, are considered foundational to the Merkabah meditative practice.
The ancient Merkabah meditative practices, as recorded in the Hekhalot (Palaces) literature, were dangerous, ecstatic techniques used by ancient Jewish mystics to induce altered states of consciousness. Because the texts warn that an unprepared mind could face madness or spiritual death, these practices were structured as a highly controlled, systematic psychological checklist. [1, 2, 3]
While the exact operational details were heavily guarded, the surviving texts outline the core structure of how a mystic attempted the “descent to the Chariot.”
1. The Purifying Isolation (Kavanah)
Before any meditation began, the practitioner had to detach entirely from the physical world.
- Ritual Cleansing: The mystic spent days or weeks fasting, abstaining from wine and meat, and immersing in a mikveh (ritual bath) to ensure absolute physical and ritual purity.
- Sensory Deprivation: The practice took place in a darkened, silent room or a secluded cave, cutting off all external sounds, sights, and distractions to force the mind entirely inward.
2. The Somatic Posture (Hitbodedut)
The mystic assumed a unique, restrictive physiological posture to catalyze the shift in consciousness.
- Head Between the Knees: The practitioner sat on the floor, bent completely forward, placing their head directly between their knees.
- Eyes Closed: The eyes were tightly shut or wrapped in a dark garment.
- Restricted Breathing: This compressed physical posture changes blood flow and restricts normal lung expansion, creating a natural state of mild hypoxia that helps unlock intense internal imagery.
3. The Rhythmic Chanting (Shirim)
The core engine of the ascent was the continuous, hypnotic repetition of poetic hymns and divine formulas.
- Angelic Simulation: The mystic chanted long, highly repetitive poems that copied the structure of the Kedushah (“Holy, Holy, Holy”). The chanting was done in a specific, rhythmic cadence, functioning as a mantra to quiet the ego and quiet intellectual thought.
- Vocal Resonance: The texts specify chanting with a specific vocal drone. The deep, vibrating drone combined with the compressed posture helped create a profound trance state.
4. The Visualization of the Seals (Chotamot)
As the mystic’s mind began to experience visions, they had to navigate an internal map of Seven Heavens or Seven Palaces (Hekhalot).
- The Guardian Angels: The texts state that each palace is barred by terrifying angelic gatekeepers made of fire and lightning.
- Mental Seals: To pass each gate, the mystic could not freeze or panic. They had to mentally visualize and visually project a specific “seal”—a geometric arrangement of Hebrew letters representing secret, hidden names of God.
- The Water Test: At the sixth gate, the mystic faced a hallucination where the floor looked like a massive, rushing ocean. The practitioner had to recognize this as pure illusion; if they cried out “Water! Water!” in fear, they were immediately ejected from the trance.
5. Reaching the Axis (The Throne Room)
If the practitioner maintained complete mental focus through all seven gates, the meditation culminated in the vision of the Merkabah (Chariot).
- The Spinning Hub: The mystic would experience the visual of the interlocking Galgalim (wheels) rotating at blinding speeds, glowing like burning brass, and covered in infinite eyes.
- The Sound Matrix: At this peak state, the rhythmic chanting merged with a roaring cosmic sound—the “voice of great waters”—leaving the mystic feeling entirely dissolved into the divine structure of the universe.
But why me?
The Four Who Entered the Orchard- A Warning
The famous story of the “Four Who Entered the Orchard” (Arba’ah She-Nichnesu La-Pardes) is a foundational warning found in the Talmud (Hagigah 14b). It serves as the ultimate cautionary tale in Jewish mysticism, demonstrating the extreme psychological and spiritual dangers of using Merkabah meditation techniques without perfect mental and spiritual readiness.
In the text, the “Orchard” (Pardes) is a mystical acronym and metaphor for the highest realms of divine paradise and the throne room of God.
The account details four great 2nd-century sages who ascended together using these ecstatic practices, with vastly different results:
1. Ben Azzai: The Physical Danger (Death)
- What Happened: Ben Azzai looked upon the divine glory and died instantly.
- The Meaning: His soul was so overwhelmed by the ecstatic beauty of the divine realm that the silver cord snappingly broke. He lacked the grounded, physical stamina to anchor his consciousness, causing his soul to permanently leave his physical body.
2. Ben Zoma: The Psychological Danger (Madness)
- What Happened: Ben Zoma looked upon the mysteries and “lost his mind” (became demented).
- The Meaning: He failed the illusion tests of the higher palaces (such as the “water test”). The sheer, infinite complexity of the spinning wheels and cosmic structures shattered his rational mind, leaving him permanently trapped in a state of psychosis back on Earth.
3. Aher (Elisha ben Abuyah): The Spiritual Danger (Heresy)
- What Happened: Elisha looked and “cut the shoots” (became a catastrophic heretic).
- The Meaning: When he entered the higher realm, he saw the supreme angel Metatron seated on a throne recording the merits of Israel. Because only God was supposed to sit in heaven, Elisha mistakenly concluded there were “Two Powers in Heaven”. His mind could not reconcile the paradoxes of the spiritual world, leading him to completely abandon his faith and became known as Aher (“The Other One”).
4. Rabbi Akiva: The Master of the Ascent (Peace)
- What Happened: Rabbi Akiva “entered in peace and departed in peace”.
- The Meaning: Akiva was the only one who survived unscathed. Before they ascended, Akiva explicitly warned the others: “When you arrive at the stones of pure marble, do not say, ‘Water, water!’ for it is written, ‘He who speaks untruths shall not stand before my eyes.'” Akiva possessed the perfect balance of emotional maturity, rigorous Torah study, and psychological grounding to recognize illusions and withstand the blinding light of the Chariot.
The Lasting Impact on Mysticism
Because of this specific event, rabbinic authorities placed strict institutional bans on the practice of Merkabah and later Kabbalistic meditation. For centuries, Jewish law decreed that a person could not even begin to study these hidden mysteries until they were at least 40 years old, married, and completely stable in their community, ensuring they would not meet the tragic fates of Ben Azzai, Ben Zoma, or Aher.
To fully understand why this brief instruction was a life-or-death survival rule for a Merkabah mystic, the warning must be broken down through the lens of ancient Hekhalot (Palaces) texts:
1. The Location: The Gate of the Sixth Palace
According to the Hekhalot Zutarti (The Lesser Heavenly Halls), this illusion occurs precisely at the threshold of the Sixth Heavenly Palace. As the soul travels closer to the Throne Chariot, the sheer density of the divine light changes. The floor of this palace is paved with highly polished, translucent, and brilliantly glowing “pure marble stones”.
2. The Optical and Spiritual Illusion
Because the marble is completely flawless and reflects the infinite radiation of the upper heavens, it creates a terrifying visual hallucination. To the ecstatic mind of the meditating rabbi, it looks exactly as if one hundred million waves of an ocean are pouring down directly on top of them. The survival test is purely psychological: the mystic must remain completely still while feeling as though they are about to drown in a cosmic sea. [1, 2]
3. Why Crying Out “Water!” is Fatal
If a mystic panics and shouts “Water, water!”, they fail the test on two major fronts:
- The Sin of Falsehood: In the absolute reality of heaven, there is no physical matter—and therefore no real water. By calling it water, the mystic speaks a literal untruth. As Akiva notes via the Psalms, a liar cannot stand before the eyes of God.
- Lack of Intellectual Integration: The test proves whether the mystic can differentiate between a sensory illusion and ultimate spiritual truth. If the mystic yells “water,” it proves their mind is still trapped in lower, earthly ways of thinking.
4. The Punishment by the Gatekeepers
The Hekhalot texts reveal the dark reality behind Akiva’s warning. The sixth gate is guarded by fierce angels of destruction who wield iron axes. If a traveler breaks their meditative focus and screams out in fear at the marble floor, the guardians assume the person is an unworthy intruder and instantly strike them down, leading to the mental madness or death seen in Akiva’s companions.
The Ancient texts that describe the Ophanim
The Ophanim are ancient celestial beings described as multi-eyed interlocking wheels in the Book of Ezekiel, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Book of Enoch. .
Biblical Texts
- Ezekiel 1:15–21: Prophet Ezekiel visualizes four wheels on the ground beside four-faced creatures, sparkling like topaz, shaped like a wheel within a wheel, and entirely covered in eyes around their rims.
- Ezekiel 10:9–13: Re-describes the sparkling, eye-adorned intersecting wheels moving in straight synchronization with the cherubim.
- Daniel 7:9: Mentions the fiery throne of God with wheels of burning fire, aligning with the concept of the wheel-beings.
Intertestamental and Apocryphal Texts
- Dead Sea Scrolls (4Q405): Expands on the texts by explicitly categorizing the galgalim or wheels as active members of the angelic hierarchy. [1]
- Book of Enoch (Sections 61:10 and 71:7): Portrays the Ophanim alongside Cherubim and Seraphim as sleepless celestial entities guarding God’s throne. [1]
Detail the historical and symbolic meaning of the eyes and wheels
The eyes and wheels of the Ophanim carry profound historical and symbolic meanings rooted in ancient Near Eastern culture and cosmic theology.
The multi-directional wheel-beings proved to the exiled Jews that their God was mobile, universal, and supreme over Babylon.
Ophanim visiting or speaking to humans
If you would like to continue exploring, I can:

Pseudo-Dionysius’s Celestial Hierarchy say about ophanim
In De Coelesti Hierarchia (“On the Celestial Hierarchy”), the 5th-century theologian Pseudo-Dionysisu groups the Ophanim into the highest angelic tier and equates them with “Thrones.” Rather than focusing on their physical appearance as literal wheels, his text reinterprets their scriptural descriptions through a lens of mystical contemplation and Neoplatonic philosophy.
- Unswerving Progression: Their multi-directional, non-turning movement is explained as their unswerving, unchanging adherence to God’s straight path.
4. Role in Divine Justice
- Instruments of Authority: Pseudo-Dionysius defines them as the executors of righteous judgment.
- Distributing Light: They receive the judicial decrees of God and peacefully transmit that ordered, cosmic harmony downward to the lower angelic ranks.
Thomas Aquinas expanded on this 800 years later
In the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas expanded on Pseudo-Dionysius’s work in his masterpiece, the Summa Theologiae [1]. Aquinas systematically blended Christian theology with Aristotelian philosophy [1], providing a precise logical framework for how the Ophanim (Thrones) function, think, and process divine knowledge [1].
1. Definition of Their Specific Spiritual Gift
While Pseudo-Dionysius focused on the Thrones as God’s literal “seats,” Aquinas clarified the exact intellectual distinction between the top three choirs: [1]
- Seraphim excel in charity and love (burning fire) [1].
- Cherubim excel in perfect knowledge (all-seeing minds) [1].
Aquinas introduced a rigorous philosophical theory on how angels “think” and pass information down [1]:
- Direct Illumination: Because the Ophanim are in the first hierarchy, they do not learn from nature or lower angels. They receive pure, unclouded light directly from God [1].
- Universal Truths: The Ophanim see the world through highly generalized, universal concepts [1]. While a human mind needs to see a thousand examples to understand a concept, an Ophanim sees the entire reality of divine justice in a single, simple idea given to them by God
- Angelic “Demotion” of Data: The Ophanim take this overwhelming, abstract divine light and “break it down” into smaller, more understandable concepts. They then pass this simplified information down to the second hierarchy (Dominions, Virtues, and Powers) [1].
3. The Rejection of Physical Wheels
Aquinas applied strict Aristotelian physics to spiritual beings [1].
4. Assignment to the Son
In Summa Theologiae (Question 108), Aquinas aligned the three highest choirs with the Holy Trinity. He assigned the Thrones to God the Son (The Word) because the Son represents Divine Wisdom and Righteous Judgment, matching the Thrones’ core purpose of executing cosmic justice.

Information on ophanim or galgalim like heavenly creatures in eastern religious traditions
In Eastern religious traditions (such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Taoism), there are no direct equivalents to the monotheistic Abrahamic angels.
- The Dikpalas / Lokapalas: These are the celestial guardians of the directional quadrants of the universe. While they have human or animal features rather than wheels, their function mimics the Ophanim’s role as cosmic sentinels guarding the divine layout of creation. [1, 2]
2. Buddhism: The Dharmachakra and the Wrathful Deities
| Upholding cosmic law (Dharma, Rta, or Tao). |

Explanation of the role of astronomy and stars in shaping both Eastern and Western wheel-beings

- Stars as the “Eyes”: The stars were anciently viewed as the literal “eyes” of heaven watching over the earth. A celestial ring covered in stars perfectly matches Ezekiel’s description of a giant cosmic rim “full of eyes round about.” [1, 2]
- The “Four-Faced” Coordinates: The Ophanim always move in tandem with the four-faced Cherubim (man, lion, ox, eagle). [1]
2. The Eastern View: The Pole Star and Cosmic Chariots
In Eastern traditions, astronomy shaped the wheel-beings through the lens of axial rotation and solar chariots.

Detail how the Greek concept of the “Music of the Spheres” connects to the sounds the Ophanim make
The Greek philosophical concept of the “Music of the Spheres” (Musica Universalis) and the biblical descriptions of the Ophanim both use acoustic metaphors to explain the mathematical and spiritual harmony of the universe.
- The Song of the Universe: In the apocryphal Book of Enoch and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Ophanim do not just make noise; they sing. They are described as a choir that continuously praises God, echoing their movements through the heavens.
3. How Neoplatonists and Medieval Scholars Connected Them
During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, scholars like Christian philosopher Boethius and later astronomers like Johannes Kepler bridged these two worlds, creating a unified theory of celestial mechanics:
- Angels as the “Movers” of the Spheres: Medieval theology posited that the physical planets did not move on their own; they were pushed by angels. The Ophanim (Thrones), being the literal wheels of God’s cosmic chariot, were identified as the spiritual intelligences residing within and rotating the planetary spheres.
- The Roar vs.
- The Rotation of Praise: In both systems, the sound is generated strictly by continuous, unswerving rotation. The Greek spheres must spin perfectly to maintain musical harmony; the Ophanim must spin perfectly to maintain cosmic justice and express eternal praise around God’s throne.

Please describe any accounts of Ophanim or Galgalim speaking prophecy or prophetic words to prophets

Dead Sea Scrolls (4Q405)

Explanation of the Merkabah meditation practices used by ancient rabbis to glimpse the spinning wheels.

The Hymns of Mystic Fire
The hymns of fire in Hekhalot literature consist of ecstatic, rhythmic, and repetitive chants designed to emulate the celestial songs of angels surrounding the divine throne. Key examples from Hekhalot Rabbati and Ma’aseh Merkabah, often featuring intense imagery of fire and mystical names, are considered foundational to the Merkabah meditative practice.
Merkabah meditative practices
The ancient Merkabah meditative practices, as recorded in the Hekhalot (Palaces) literature, were dangerous, ecstatic techniques used by ancient Jewish mystics to induce altered states of consciousness. Because the texts warn that an unprepared mind could face madness or spiritual death, these practices were structured as a highly controlled, systematic psychological checklist.
- The Guardian Angels: The texts state that each palace is barred by terrifying angelic gatekeepers made of fire and lightning. [1]

Detail the famous warning of the “Four Who Entered the Orchard” (Pardes) to show what happened when this meditation went wrong
In the text, the “Orchard” (Pardes) is a mystical acronym and metaphor for the highest realms of divine paradise and the throne room of God. [1]
If you would like to conclude this journey, I can:
- Detail the exact instructions Rabbi Akiva gave regarding the “pure marble stones”
- Explain the metaphorical meaning of the word P-R-D-S in Jewish scriptural interpretation
Let me know how you would like to proceed!
The exact text of the instructions Rabbi Akiva gave to his fellow sages before they initiated their mystical ascent into the Pardes is recorded in the Talmud, Hagigah 14b:
“When, upon your arrival in the upper worlds, you reach pure marble stones, do not say: ‘Water, water,’ although they appear to be water, because it is stated: ‘He who speaks falsehood shall not be established before My eyes’ (Psalms 101:7).”
3. Why Crying Out “Water!” is Fatal
If a mystic panics and shouts “Water, water!”, they fail the test on two major fronts: [1]
This brings our detailed journey through ancient angelology, the Ophanim, and Merkabah mysticism to a close. If you ever want to re-open these texts or explore other esoteric traditions, I will be here to help navigate the history!
Explain the metaphorical meaning of the word P-R-D-S in Jewish scriptural interpretation
In Jewish scriptural interpretation, the word P-R-D-S (pronounced Pardes, meaning “orchard” or “paradise”) is a critical four-letter Hebrew acronym (PRDS – פרדס). It represents the four distinct levels of textural analysis used to decode the Hebrew bible.
1. Peshat (פְּשָׁט) – The Plain Meaning
- The Definition: The literal, straightforward meaning of the text.
- The Focus: It analyzes the actual words, grammar, historical context, and immediate narrative plot.
- The Goal: To understand exactly what the text says on the surface without reading into it. For example, in Genesis, it reads the Creation story as six literal days.
2. Remez (רֶמֶז) – The Hint / Allegory
- The Definition: The deep allegorical, symbolic, or hidden meanings embedded just beneath the surface.
- The Focus: It looks at textual anomalies—like an oddly shaped letter, an extra word, or numeric values of words (Gematria)—as intentional clues left by the author.
- The Goal: To find philosophical or deeper symbolic truths that the literal text only hints at.
3. Derash (דְּרָשׁ) – The Inquiry / Homily
- The Definition: The homiletic, moral, and practical application of the text, often found in Midrash.
- The Focus: It compares the text to other verses across scripture to extract legal codes (Halakha) or moral lessons (Aggadah).
- The Goal: To take an ancient story or law and breathe metaphorical, relevant life into it for everyday human conduct.
4. Sod (סוֹד) – The Secret / Mystery
- The Definition: The ultimate, esoteric, and mystical meaning of the text.
- The Focus: This level forms the basis of Kabbalah and the ancient Merkabah traditions. It treats the letters of the Torah not as mere stories, but as a living blueprint of the universe and the mind of God.
- The Goal: To achieve a spiritual revelation or cosmic understanding of the universe’s mechanics.
How It Connects to the “Four Who Entered the Orchard”
The four levels of Pardes explain exactly what happened to the four sages in the Talmudic story. While any scholar can study the literal (Peshat), allegorical (Remez), and homiletic (Derash) layers, the four sages attempted to break directly into the absolute highest layer: the Sod (Secret).
Because the Sod deals with infinite cosmic light—represented by the spinning, eye-covered wheels of the Ophanim—approaching it without total mastery over the lower three layers is what led to the tragic physical, mental, and spiritual destruction of Akiva’s companions.
If you would like to continue, let me know if you would like to see a specific biblical verse broken down through all four levels of Pardes as a practical example!
No authentic historical video or audio recordings exist of the ancient “hymns of fire” being sung.
The texts from the Hekhalot literature and the Dead Sea Scrolls date back between 1,500 and 2,000 years ago. Because these ancient Merkabah practices were strictly guarded, completely secretive, and eventually banned by rabbinic authorities, the exact melodies, vocal drones, and musical cadences used by the ancient mystics have been entirely lost to history.
Modern Interpretations
While there are no historical recordings, the concept of fiery divine worship continues to inspire different genres today. These contemporary pieces reflect the theme of divine fire, though they are entirely separate from the secretive practices of the ancient rabbis:
If you would like to explore further, we can pivot to examining how ancient musical notation works in the Hebrew Bible, or look into the poetic structure of the text of these hymns to see how the words themselves rhythmically repeat!l
hymns of fire in Hekhalot literature
The “hymns of fire” found across Hekhalot literature (such as Hekhalot Rabbati and Ma’aseh Merkabah) are estatic rhythmic prayers. They were used by ancient Jewish mystics to induce trance states and safely navigate the fiery palaces of the heavens.
These hymns are characterized by intense repetition, non-semantic divine names, and a vivid obsession with elemental fire.
The primary thematic text fragments, structural components, and theological meanings of these hymns include:
1. The Hymn of the Fiery Creatures (Hekhalot Rabbati)
One of the most famous hymns describes the physical reality of the highest angels—the Seraphim, Cherubim, and Ophanim—as they stand trembling before the divine throne. In Gershom Scholem’s authoritative translation of Hekhalot Rabbati, the text repeats the word “fire” (Esh) rhythmically:
“Before whom the holy beasts are stationed and stand speaking with a still small voice—
They are fire,
their palate is fire,
their movement is fire,
their speech is fire,
yet are they afraid because of fire.” []
2. The Song of the Cosmic Hub (Hekhalot Rabbati §154)
Another foundational hymn shifts the focus to the actual praise offered to God by the architectural elements of the throne chariot, directly connecting to the Ophanim bearing the wheels:
“They bear up the wheel of the throne of His glory, singing:
‘Sing, sing for joy, supernal dwelling!
Shout, shout for joy, precious vessel!
Made marvelously and a marvel.
Surely thou shalt gladden the King who sitteth upon thee…'”
3. The Structural Mechanics of the Hymns
When reading these texts, scholars note that they do not read like traditional synagogue prayers. Instead, they are built as linguistic tools for sensory overload:
- Hypnotic Monotony: The lines utilize intense, unbroken repetition (e.g., repeating adjectives like “awesome King, majestic King, fiery King” dozens of times in a row) to act as a verbal mantra.
- The Alphabetical Matrix: Many hymns are written as strict acrostics following the Hebrew alphabet (Aleph-Bet). This was believed to invoke the very linguistic elements God used to create the universe.
- Incantations of Light: The texts frequently intersperse the poetry with stringed, abstract letter combinations—the Nomina Barbara or secret names of God—which had no semantic meaning but were vibrated purely for their energetic and acoustic resonance.
4. The Theological Purpose: Protection from the “Lava Stream”
In Hekhalot thought, heaven is not a peaceful meadow; it is an environment of intense, radioactive, and destructive heat. God is described as sitting in a “lava stream of flaming coals,” and the palaces are surrounded by rivers of fire.
The hymns functioned as a spiritual shielding mechanism. By reciting the exact songs the angels of fire were singing, the human mystic harmonized their soul’s frequency with the celestial environment. This allowed them to pass through walls of flames and fierce angelic guardians holding iron cleavers without being consumed or struck down.
Summoning Metatron
The Sefer Ha-Cheshek and Cairo Genizah fragments contain a strict, legalistic adjuration used in Merkavah mysticism to command the appearance of the angel Metatron. This ancient ritual formula involves reciting powerful, non-linguistic divine names following a rigorous, week-long purification process, which, according to the text, compels the angel to reveal hidden knowledge. invocation, which focuses on invoking the “Seven Names” and specific, non-defined “barbaric” terms as acoustic keys, serves as a direct, commanding channel rather than a plea, with specific, strict warnings about the exactness of the ritual’s execution.
Hymns of Fire.
The hymns of fire in Hekhalot literature are ecstatic liturgical poems sung by angelic hosts and human mystics that describe, evoke, and merge with the blazing divine radiance of the celestial throne room. These fiery compositions serve as verbal mirrors to the streams of fire, lightning, and burning angelic formations encountered during a visionary ascent through the heavenly palaces (hekhalot).
Characteristics of the Fiery Hymns
- Angelic Choirs: Chanted ceaselessly by fiery beings, ophanim, and cherubim whose bodies are made of glowing coals and incandescent light.
- Cosmic Elements: Depict boundaries of celestial firmaments constructed out of alternating layers of hanging waters and roaring fire.
- Ecstatic Transformation: Used by the human yored merkabah (“descender of the chariot”) to withstand terrifying angelic gatekeepers and undergo a quasi-angelic transformation into a being of fire.
- Divine Dimensions: Accommodate descriptions of the colossal, fiery measurements of the Creator’s manifest glory (kavod).
Core Texts and Contexts
- The Setting: Found across classic anthologies like Hekhalot Rabbati and Ma’aseh Merkabah, functioning simultaneously as magical adjurations and sublime poetry.
- The Purpose: Bridge the gap between human limitation and divine holiness, allowing the visionary’s voice to harmonize with the eternal Trisagion (“Holy, holy, holy”) echoing from the throne of glory.
- The Imagery: Characterize God not as an abstract entity, but as an all-consuming fire surrounded by thousands of camps of the Shekhinah carrying crowns of fire
Hekhalot Rabbati
Hekhalot Rabbati (The Greater Palaces) is a foundational text of early Jewish mysticism (Merkavah literature) that describes the celestial journey of Rabbie Ishamel through the seven heavenly palaces. . You can explore the primary text and its structure on Sefaria.
Core Themes and Structure
- Celestial Ascent: Details the perilous journey through seven heavenly realms guarded by fierce angels.
- Mystical Seals: Explains the secret names of God, magical seals, and purification steps needed to pass heavenly gatekeepers safely.
- Angelic Hymns: Features ecstatic, rhythmic songs of praise—such as the Kedushah—recited by heavenly hosts.
- Historical Context: Intertwines esoteric traditions with the fate of Israel and responses to Roman persecution.
The Kedushah (Holiness) is a central, responsive prayer in Judaism that sanctifies God’s name, declaring Him holy above the earth just as the angels do in heaven. It is recited exclusively in a minyan (a quorum of ten) during the repetition of the Amidah prayer, and you can view the complete Hebrew text and English translation on Sefaria.
Core Biblical Verses
The prayer is structured around three foundational biblical verses shouted by angels in prophetic visions:
- Isaiah 6:3: “Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh…” (Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory).
- Ezekiel 3:12: “Baruch Kevod Adonai…” (Blessed is the glory of the Lord from His place).
- Psalms 146:10: “Yimloch Adonai Le’olam…” (The Lord shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, throughout all generations).
Liturgical Variations
The length and themes of the Kedushah expand depending on when it is recited:
- Weekday/Shabbat Shacharit: Standard liturgy focusing on the angelic praises described by Isaiah.
- Shabbat Musaf: Contains an expanded version that explicitly incorporates the Shema Yisrael, reflecting historical periods when public declaration of the Shema was prohibited by authorities.
- Yom Kippur Ne’ilah: Features the most solemn, intense iterations of the prayer as the gates of judgment close.
Mystical Connection to Hekhalot Literature
The Kedushah is the literal bridge between mainstream liturgy and early Jewish mysticism like the Hekhalot Rabbati:
- Human-Angelic Symbios
- Hekhalot texts teach that humans must synchronize their prayers with the exact moment angels sing in heaven.
- The Cosmic Crown: Mystics believe the recitation of the Kedushah transforms human words into a spiritual crown worn by God.
- Physical Posture: Worshipers traditionally stand with feet together and rise on their toes during the word “Kadosh” to physically emulate the fluttering wings of the angels described in mystical ascents.

follows him the array of gods and demigods, marshalled in eleven
bands; Hestia alone abides at home in the house of heaven; of the rest
they who are reckoned among the princely twelve march in their
appointed order.”
“Holy Queen of Sanctity,
we hymn you, Hestia, whose abiding realm
is Olympus and the middle point of earth
and the Delphic laurel tree!
You dance around Apollo’s towering temple
rejoicing both in the tripod’s mantic voices
and when Apollo sounds the seven strings
of his golden phorminx and, with you,
sings the praises of the feasting gods.
We salute you, daughter of Kronos
and Rhea, who alone brings firelight
to the sacred altars of the gods;
Hestia, reward our prayer, grant
wealth obtained in honesty: then we shall always
dance around your glistening throne.”
Hypnos
“O youthful Hypnos, gentlest of the gods, by what crime or error of
mine have I deserved that I alone should lack thy bounty? Silent are
all the cattle, and the wild beasts and the birds, and the curved
mountain summits have the semblance of weary slumber, nor do the
raging torrents roar as they were wont; the ruffled waves have sunk to
rest, and the sea leans against earth’s bosom and is still. Seven
times now hath the returning moon beheld my fixed and ailing eyes; so
often have the lights of Oeta and Paphos [i.e. the morning & evening
star] revisited me, so oft hath Tithonia [Aurora-Eos, the Dawn] passed
by my groans, and pitying sprinkled me with her cool whip [the whip
with which she chases away the stars]. Ah! how may I endure? Not if I
had the thousand eyes of sacred Argus, which he kept but in alternate
watchfulness, nor even waked in all his frame at once. But now–ah,
me!–if some lover through the long hours of night is clasping a
girl’s entwining arms, and of his own will drives thee from him, come
thence, O Hypnos! Nor do I bid thee shower all the influence of thy
wings upon my eyes–that be the prayer of happier folk!–touch me but
with thy wand’s extremest tip–’tis enough–or pass over me with
lightly hovering step.”
-Silvae, Publius Papinius Statius
Helios
“O Lord Helios and Sacred Fire
The spear of Hekate of the Crossroads
Which she bears as she travels Olympus
And dwells in the triple ways of the holy land
She who is crowned with oak-leaves
And the coils of wild serpents.”
“Let the heavens be silent,
the earth, the sea, the winds.
Mountains, valleys, echoes
and the sons of birds, keep silent!
Phoebus of the long and beauteous hair is coming.
Father of the dawn, with eye of dazzling white,
you, with the glorious golden tresses,
lead your rosy chariot along the limitless roads of the sky,
following the winged footprints of the steeds,
intertwining your curling rays,
surrounding the whole earth with your resplendent light.
Your rivers of immortal fire give life to the smiling day.
For your, the imperturbable chorus of stars dances on Olympus
accompanying their free melody on Phoebus’ lyre;
and in front, the pale Moon leads the rhythmic times
of the seasons by the cadenced movement of white calves.
Your benevolent spirit rejoices in turning the myriad-robed earth.”
“Rejoice with me, You who are set over the East Wind and the World,

Nemesis
“Nemesis, winged tilter of scales and lives,
Justice-spawned Goddess with steel-blue eyes!
Thou bridlest vain men who roil in vain
Against Thy harsh adamantine rein.
Great hater of hubris and megalomania,
Obliterator of black resentment,
By Thy trackless, churning, wracking wheel
Man’s glinting fortunes turn on earth.
Thou comest in oblivion’s cloak to bend
The grandeur-deluded rebel neck,
With forearm measuring out lifetimes
With brow frowning into the heart of man
And the yoke raised sovereign in Thy hand.
Hail in the highest, O justice-queen
Nemesis, winged tilter of scales and lives,
Immortal Resenter! I sing Thy song,
Almighty Payback on proud-spread wings,
Lieutenant of fairness, Requiter of wrongs.
Despise the lordly with all Thine art
And lay them low in the Nether-dark.”
